Migos- Culture 2 B- 83%

Culture II.png

Well them damn Migos are back already to re-up with the sequel to Culture. Although some sequels never reach the potential of the original the Migos take a stab out of it. The Migos 2017 was phenomenal. They were successful and it all started with “Bad & Boujee” endorsement from Donald Glover and more hits also Offset and Cardi’s alliance with the group made them more high profile and the incident at “Everyday Struggle” and altercation with Chris Breezy at the same venue and multiple altercations throughout made the Migos group of the year and also their performances throughout the Quality Control “Control The Streets” Vol. 1 kept Takeoff, Offset & Quavo the talk of the town. Now let’s get into it.

“Higher We Go” (Intro)

This hook is hella annoying. The three Migos bring average verses on a dope ass beat although I fucks with Offset verse. But that’s all really this song has to offer is turn up volume. I get the concept as a switch from the original Culture album.

“Supastar”

This record reminds me of an old KLC/Beats By The Pound beat. The three Migos do decent on this song equally contributing. Not the greatest Migos song but decent enough due to Honorable C-Notes dope ass production to stomach this.

“Narcos”

This my one of my favorite cuts on the album. Shit is fire. Hook addictive. Offset, Takeoff & Quavo all snap first time in a while I heard a Migos cut where all 3 bring it with dope verses and a very catchy hook. You can mob through the jungle through this bitch with this song.

“BBO (Bad Bitches Only)” (featuring 21 Savage)

This song turned out surprisingly good. From the skim I wasn’t so sure but when I listened to it a few times this song is a hit record. I can see the money the stripper hoes about to make off this shit. 21 Savage bodies this hook. Very catchy dope verses from Migos.

“Auto Pilot (Huncho on the Beat)”

This song could be a third or fourth single. Random black song in a white movie ass flow. But Quavo did the beat and this is decent. Offset bodied his verse. Overall okay song.

“Walk It Talk It” (featuring Drake)

From the skim this song sucked donkey balls. After I listened to this song I fucked with it. Drake verse had that line “I hit her gave her back to the city, she home” funny. But it’s good to see Drake back with the crew in which Drake co-signed to get put on the map with their first hit “Versace”. This a club banger. Seems like Offset can’t stop killing the verses shit goddamn. Although I hate this stupid ass hook.

“Emoji a Chain”

This another favorite song on the album for me. I think it’s cause of the Metro sounds. All 3 Migos do their thing on this song and this hook is fucking hilarious. So is ya’ll niggas gonna get emoji chains or nah?

“CC” (featuring Gucci Mane)

This shit dope. Gucci kilt this verse on here. Just real trap two stepping on here. Dope cooking music right here. Quavo goes full Kanye/Travis mode on here.

“Stir Fry”

When I first heard this shit. This shit was fucking nasty and I realized it’s Skateboard P on the beat. This nigga goes full Mannie Fresh in 02-04 mode. This is as southern as beats get it’s like putting gumbo on an MPC and P just adds that Neptune sound to it. And all 3 Migos have stellar, tolerable verses. But this is the best song on here in my opinion and my favorite one on here.

“Too Much Jewelry”

I like this song. Typical Zaytoven took it back to them 05-06 Gucci/OJ days with this beat. This song could be a fan favorite. It’s not one of my favorites songs but I put some respeck on its name. This shit catchy. “Quarter ticket, half a ticket” bridge got me on here.

“Gang Gang”

I’m guessing this the pop/gangsta/singy songy song. Nothing wrong with it. Murda on the beat so it’s nothing nice, ha. Should go in the little pop spots that play Miami turn up Jersey fist pump music. But it’s a good play on “whole lot of gang shit” but the song pretty average.

“White Sand” (featuring Travis Scott, Ty Dolla Sign and Big Sean)

This is a decent posse cut, Low key party song. Catchy song. Ty Dolla $ign can’t do any wrong with his track record with hooks or full songs. Sean dominates this song with a memorable verse media gonna try and find a way to say he taking shots at Kendrick when that back and forth been over since the Khaled song. Well we got a Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho song on here. This could have been on that album.

“Crown the Kings”

This beat is beautiful. Not bad Quavo. And this bassline is insane. Seems like a celebration to all of the Migos success. I like this song it’s not too bad at all.

“Flooded”

This beat is nasty it’s reminiscent of Zaytoven although he didn’t produce it. This shit okay. But Offset starts snapping until the pause moment of the album “Put the stick in his mouth, give him a facial” dog I’m sorry but no nigga looked at this in the booth and said Offset you need to change that it’s no right way to say this line unless the stick is in a girls mouth idgaf if it’s a gun reference. Pause. This supposed to be the hardcore shoot a nigga song of the album I guess. Overall shit average.

“Beast”

Another Murda Beatz track. Meh I’m not a fan of this song. It isn’t the worst shit ever but this could have been cut from the album. If not for Offset’s verse this song kind of pales in comparison to the other 23 songs.

“Open It Up”

Uh oh we got Cardo and Migos! This is a hit record. Quavo with the ill ass hook chant. I can see the crowd chanting Quavo verse ya’ll. This sound is different for Cardo but shows his versatility cause he’s making a beat at the Migos tempo BPM. Sounds like it could be a sequel to “Ice Tray”

“MotorSport” (with Nicki Minaj and Cardi B)

This is a song I gave “Posse Cut Of The Year” in the 2017 KingKnown Awards. Obviously I think highly of this shit. But Cardi and Nicki body this song they brought energy and performance to this shit. Look like its subs but both deny they taking shots at each other on the song. Just a really good posse cut top 100 LMAO! While Cardi establishes herself, Nicki proves she has a lot left in the tank although her run is coming to an end.

“Movin’ Too Fast”

Man who gave Quavo the MPC LMAO! That was a good idea. The music reminds me of the 90s with the keys. Lyrics aren’t 90s but this song is pretty solid. Nothing special.

“Work Hard”

This shit is pretty average but this beat is bananas. Quavo goes hard on here. Now that I think about it it’s a decent song nonetheless. Just a song about working hard to get to where you need to be. Never let the lack of education hold you back from getting the bag.

“Notice Me” (featuring Post Malone)

FkI wasted a beat and a Post hook. I thought this was gonna be good but this the worst song on the album although it’s one of the better beats and hooks of the album. Not a fan of the lyrics and the laziness of this song. Should’ve went to someone else. Although Offset saves the track from being trash and upgrades it to barely average.

“Too Playa” (featuring 2 Chainz)

This beat/saxophone is insanity I tell you. This shit is cool. 2 Chainz comes through as the goddamn cameo king of the 2010s usually does. But they act like Chainz wasn’t spitting in DTP though. But I can see this hitting though cause of him. Another turn up song with a great hook.

“Made Men”

Cassius Jay killed this beat. This got 90s vibes all over this shit. Sounds like the old outro beats at the end of albums. One of the better songs on this album. Verses are solid all around.

“Top Down on da Nawf”

Not really a fan of the song but I get the concept just repping their side of town where they will never forget where they came from type song. But shit average at best and a skip button candidate.

“Culture National Anthem” (Outro)

Ten times better than the Intro. And a great way to close this album out. Catchy as fuck and decent lyrics. I fucks with it.

Overall, Culture 1 established the Migos as superstars in the game with their hit records and catchy hooks. Quavo was the star of the original. Meanwhile on Culture 2 all 3 members show improvement and Offset is emerging as possibly the star of the group. I see the Cardi B link up was a good thing for him. No diss to Takeoff who pretty much improved a bit but hasn’t really established the consistency of Quavo and Offset. But he isn’t Michelle Williams. More al a Sheek Louch of the group. Culture II shows the overall production was very central in how dope this is. Lyrically below average and average on some cases. This album was lacking substance as always so I can’t all the way knock them for that because this is a group that doesn’t have substance. 24 tracks is a little bit too much Migos also. If they would have trimmed the fat this would be a top-tier album. But, it’s a plethora of top 40 singles on here and you will hear this album circulating at party events across the world. Because that’s the culture the Migos represent.
