DJ Khaled- Major Key B+ 88

Yeah my healthy subscribers both of ya’ll I’m back with a MAJOR KEY ALERT! If you follow Khaled on Snapchat he makes movies out of 10 second Snapchats with the biggest stars: Past, Present & Future (literally). However Khaled, the new Roc Nation signee after 2 albums with YMCMB returns with album number 9 with Major Key. Is the hype real? Does Khaled finally deliver a classic album. He is the current literal Pied Piper and Hype Man GOAT of this current generation. So I’m excited let’s get to this shit!

“I Got the Keys” (featuring Jay Z and Future)

I waited tirelessly for leak after leak before it sprung on the night of the BET Awards. Would’ve been better with the performance. But hey fuck it get it how you live. I was worried about Hov and Future collabing but Jay fit himself in like he always does. He’s the greatest for a reason. Although, he doesn’t have to force on the world that he got something left in the tank. This track is illustrious though a coming out party to possibly the last dominant run of the MJ of rap. He also throws light Jabs at Drake pointing out a powerpoint presentation about how he’s is so different from Drake and how no one out there can mirror the greatness of HOV cause He Got The Keys!

“For Free” (featuring Drake)

This song is dope don’t get it twisted. But I’m tired of Aubrey Graham stealing fam. The biting takes down the value of how great this song really is. It’s one thing to take a couple bars but to steal is another. Whether it’s biting Ma$e or biting Rappin 4 Tay or even ghostwriters it’s irritating. Now the positive this is arguably the song of the summer easily. Because it’s got the summer beach bunny vibe at the South Beach type flow. What man wouldn’t want an ass popped on him to this shit. It samples Akinyele- Fuck Me For Free (which is a better song) but hey can’t knock how dope this is though but please stop the stealing LMAO!

“Nas Album Done” (featuring Nas)

Well Nas we all know still has it and has multiple consecutive #1 albums so enough said the Lauryn Hill “Fugee-La” Sample is dope. My thing about this track is Nas doesn’t even have to stress it or make it complicated he gives off the warning shot for the exciting new Nas material to come.

“Holy Key” (featuring Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean and Betty Wright)

This song is incredible. Sean and Kendrick spar again. Khaled hyped up Kendrick’s verse a lot. But this is in the middle of his great illustrious verses of his career. Kendrick took a minute to finally spaz like we know he does. But Sean verse is dope calling out many clones who have used his style and not giving him the proper credit. Betty Wright takes they ass to church on this shit. This should be an arena anthem for years to come. This line-up is a nice matchup. I see Cool & Dre still at it bringing Khaled fire.

“Jermaine’s Interlude” (featuring J. Cole)

J. Cole brings the introspection and the substance to this track period. It’s a nice interlude to the conscious. Nothing really notable about it. But it’s a good track nonetheless and it belongs.

“Ima Be Alright” (featuring Bryson Tiller and Future)

Man Bryson Tiller the truth flat out. Future brings a dope verse on here. This beat is ridiculous and the repeat button on this song gonna be broke when I get through.

“Do You Mind” (featuring Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Future and Rick Ross)

Well the samples continue (nothing wrong since all Kanye records have sampled something) The sample of “Lovers and Friends” by Lil Jon. However the seeds of Usher aka Chris Brown, August Alsina & Jeremih back at it again with another anthem. This is a great follow up to “Hold You Down”. Bedroom smash for real. As Nicki boasts about her toes being sucked (LMAO) and Future kills it again (who wrote this nigga verse mane). Also has Rick Ross. All artist brought the dynamic of dopeness to this record. If the sex is good between partners most won’t make it to Future verse LMAO! Nicki’s riffing at the end is nice.

“Pick These Hoes Apart” (featuring Kodak Black, Jeezy and French Montana)

The first flaw in the album. I kind of knew it considering the lineup has much of nothing to offer lyrically except Jeezy. Kind of throwaway-ish but it isn’t awful trash juice. But it’s pretty average to me. Kodak Black doesn’t fuck up too badly. The hook cool. But this dude is hella trash the same ignant fool who bought you “I’m already better than Pac and Big” He barely better than Chief Keef. Jeezy does a decent job picking up the pieces. And French closes on a shaky note not really his best guest spot. I low key think Jeezy should have did this by himself. I mean the song is called Pick These Hoes Apart can’t expect substance out of it. But hey what do I know right? There are artists who speak on these topics who can stretch it out a lot better.

“Fuck Up the Club” (featuring Future, Rick Ross, YG and Yo Gotti)

Man this a banger! Turn up! Turn up! Turn up! Future promises in the hook when he shows up he shows out. I can see strip clubs playing this shit out. Rick Ross plays his role as a boss should. YG switches his flow and succeeds. Yo Gotti kilt this shit. But overall it’s a slightly above average song with in the car strip club value.

“Work for It” (featuring Big Sean, Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz)

Sean killed this shit! See Drake needs to learn from Sean (Oh yeah he did already…..he used his flow the first part of his career). Sean uses the Usher “You Make Me Wanna” reference on here and doesn’t use the whole verse or hook. This song beats hard (pause) it’s just Metro Boomin’ mane! But Gucci & 2 Chainz bring the trap element so it looks like a solid collab fam. The tree of them do a dope job. Sounds like something Sean using for his record as he takes a 2nd verse and takes a slight at Fresh Prince in a bar. The track is about how he’s willing to leave everything alone for this chick that he’s smashing. It has that ghetto Detroit club vibe without the extra basicness. Strip club anthem. I love it.

“Don’t Ever Play Yourself” (featuring Jadakiss, Fabolous, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes and Kent Jones)

Yo this lineup is a hip hop orgy. 3 of my favorites: Busta, Jada and Fab. Fat Joe in a current comeback resurgence as a great hitmaker and new kid Kent Jones (I can’t stand that stupid ass song he got out). Jada and Fab continue 15+ years streak of no wack verses. Fabolous is a superstar the most underrated and underappreciated. So he has the best verse on here. Joey Crack sounds different since the weight loss it’s a good thing. Busta verse is solid as fuck. As we move on to Kent Jones he actually does his thing and did what he was supposed to against so many heavyweights show up. His closing line is pretty good as well.

“Tourist” (featuring Travis Scott and Lil Wayne)

Well this sounds like another episode of the Showtime series “Roadies” the rap version. This beat like other Travis Scott offerings are dope as fuck. Rhymes could have been a lot better but it could’ve been a hit 4 years ago. But the dope production can’t be ignored. Although, Wayne technically delivers an average verse. Travis Scott does Travis Scott a bunch of yelling in autotune that sounds dope similar to Future but more like Kanye. I’ll put this as a tolerable song but nothing like “I GOT TO HEAR THAT TRAVIS AND WAYNE”. Also could be a bedroom joint if your girl like that trap shit!

“Forgive Me Father” (featuring Meghan Trainor, Wiz Khalifa and Wale)

I love this song. Flat the fuck out. As much as it as needed for some people going through it who don’t recognize their gifts. Even with the mistakes they make on a daily basis. Karma is a dish best served cold. However, you are not your mistakes you are your triumphs. Meghan Trainor is kind of dope though she’s a pop chick who’s had success so Khaled knows exactly what he was doing. This is one of the best songs on this album flat out. Hit the replay button on this one.

“Progress” (performed by Mavado)

Mavado! I like Khaled for putting this cat on his album. I like the island vibe to it it’s another nice cut on this album and a nice way to close however I prefer the previous track to be the closer.

Overall, Khaled delivers one of the better albums in his discography. This could be the best one he’s put together: While “Listennn” was an ode to Miami artists, “We The Best”established him as a superstar, “We Global” made his face of the franchise status known worldwide, “Victory” showed all he does is win, “We The Best Forever” showed his legacy was a lock, “Kiss The Ring” was an introduction to future stars, “Suffering From Success” showed Khaled at his peak, and “I Changed A Lot” showed the celebration of a boss. “Major Key” was definitely an ode to himself and that locked the key to some dope ass shit.

Dreezy- No Hard Feelings B+ 88

Dreezy - No Hard Feelings (Cover).jpg

Well my peoples, I’m back and I guess I’m motivated to do more reviews and shit. So next up is Dreezy. I been fucking with her music since 2014 when I heard her on Common- Nobody’s Smiling album. She was a burst of energy out the gate. I’m like who is this chick and where the hell she come from. So I figured out she was from Chicago and what put her on the map was a freestyle to Nicki Minaj’s “Chi-Raq” and that she was signed to Interscope. Her EP’s “Call It What You Want” and “From Now On” are both dope displays and definitely built the anticipation of this project. Dreezy is a nice combination of Dej Loaf and Ms. Jade. But anyways, dickriding or vagina riding aside let’s get into it:

“Wake da Fuck up Intro”

This is pretty much a theme through out the album from the break up to a new relationship. This is a wake up call that Dreezy’s man been fucking another broad at his crib and her friend finds out.

“We Gon Ride” (featuring Gucci Mane)

GUCCI! Dreezy teams up with Gucci to pay homage to the best friend and the sidekick that’s down to ride through any circumstance. This shit fire. Gucci delivers and sounds exactly like he used to and Dreezy gut punches the two verses she has.

“That’s My Cousin”

This skit is Dreezy catching her man in the act with another woman. And she beats the hell out of him and her girlfriend. Like a Barbershop 1 moment for real!

“Spazz”

This is pretty much the track following the skit that no matter how controlled she seems to look she will spaz on anyone. It sounds like a basic Chicago type song with that drill flow to an extent.

“Body” (featuring Jeremih)

This song has radio hit written all over it. This caters the other talent of Dreezy’s to sing and keep up with the R&B’s most slept on superstar in Jeremih. This is the song she’s most known for that’s currently still charting. I like this song perfect two step song.

“Drunk Jamal”

This is apparently the guy that she left that he’s in denial that with all that cheating and all those side babies and side bitches are done he wants to change. He’s obviously drunk singing “Body” like a fool.

“Wasted”

Dreezy confronts her man about how his drinking affects their relationship. That this guy only seems to want her when he’s drinking. She continuously tells him she wants him sober but she resorts to lines such as “he only wanted me because my body shaped like a liquor bottle” easily one of my favorite tracks on this album.

“Afford My Love” (featuring Wale)

Dreezy definitely killed this shit bottom line. She is talking about if the mind ain’t right the bank you can’t buy her love. Wale’s verse is underwhelming probably his worst verse since that old Madden 07 game it was bad. Highly disappointed in him this is a neo-soul type song something Wale eats off of. And he doesn’t deliver on this but doesn’t ruin the value of the track as Dreezy just bodies both verses.

“Don’t Know Me”

Just an explanation on her behalf. So you as a person is gonna act like I owe you even though I did everything that I was obligated to do in a relationship. It’s like if you think I’m a user than you don’t know me at all. So it’s a solid track. I understand the subject matter.

“Da Guys (Sean Skit)”

So this guy finds out about Dreezy being single. This Jamal guy who cheated he finds out about it and gossips with his boys about it and he brags about how he’s gonna get the girl.

“Bad Bitch”

This song is dope kind of like a verse execution show. With a basic hook about what makes a bad bitch. Even though, this song isn’t bad but the subject matter is yet basic of sorts.

“Worth It”

This song is sexy bottom line, I can see this being played on Power for a reason. But I fucks with this shit. It seems like a pitch to a great man.

“See What You On”

Even though she’s from Chicago. This sounds like a Detroit record it’s got that same bop to it but this is the same producer who produced on Payroll’s mixtape so hey. #KanyeShrug but this shit is tight and definitely a tweener between two step and a sex record.

“What’s da Tea?”

Dreezy ends up telling her friend about the new person she met and that she will give him a chance to show his worth.

“Close to You” (featuring T-Pain)

This song is dope bottom line. Dreezy and T-Pain have a nice chemistry on this song it’s just another one of those songs that will be in your bedroom playlist.

“Ready”

This marks technically another bedroom medley has Dreezy explaining how she’s ready to take things to that next level of the relationship.

“Sean vs. Jamal”

This skit explains the old guy and the new guy confronting each other over Dreezy. It’s that same bullshit when niggas fighting over a girl. Which is some sucker shit and their fight erupts in gunfire in the streets of Chicago but we have no idea who lives or dies.

“Break the News”

Now Dreezy’s at a crossing point. She knows her ex-boyfriend ain’t shit but he fucks better than the new guy. It’s pretty much a last minute meet and greet with the ex before she finally realizes who her choice is. Do we figure it out or we just wait until her next album? She makes the choice to have sex with her ex and she knows she’s wrong but she’s had years invested in this individual even though he’s not the right person for her future.

“Invincible”

This is a great closer. Dreezy goes from laid back to victorious super-saiyan on her verses. She definitely kills this shit and it’s the best track on this album, bar none.

Overall, this album was enjoyable it was like sort of westside story meets the gutter blocks of Chiraq. I approve of this especially to the people who are sexually active because she’s got a lot of those types of records on here. Dreezy proves that she’s a competent spitter and definitely a top 5 current female MC at this point because there aren’t many doing it this consistent.

Top 50 R. Kelly Songs

Image result for r. kelly

Well ladies and gentleman I’m back with another post about my favorite R&B artist ever. R. Kelly. Through scandal, life changes and adversity R. Kelly still became responsible for many of these new bastards being conceived. However, he also makes every type of song out of clean air. He began making riffs about McDonalds and making every young 15 year old feel some type of way in awe of this pure singing, song creating genius. He is still arguably the greatest R&B singer of my generation and his consistency and 13 albums are all successful and plenty of substance over filler. Although without these missteps and bumps in the road via himself, the evil media and former acquaintances looking for big bucks to air him out and the most pirated sex tape of the millenium. R. Kelly through all that continues to break ground for 3 decades. Being responsible for the creation of Aaliyah, crafting songs for Tyrese, Trey Songz, Marques Houston, just to name a few…..R. Kelly remains the R&B King with Gorilla Glue on the crown. And I now behold the top 50 R. Kelly songs of all time!

Schoolboy Q- Blank Face LP A- 90

Groovy Q is back after thoughts of retirement and a resurgence as 1/4 of Black Hippy. Thank god. Blank Face serves as a dope album and infectious to all listeners.
Torch (feat. Anderson .Paak)

The opener is a soul based intro as Q reminds you of where he has came from and how he’s got to this point. I think all of his joints begin with a track with this drum pattern.

Lord Have Mercy (feat. Swizz Beatz)

I like this song the only problem it should have been longer. Swizz does a dope ass hook he’s been working a lot more than usual lately.

That Part (feat. Kanye West)

This is a Banger I was excited when I heard this record. I was like this is gonna be his biggest hit. Kanye verse is insane. The song is catchy and a perfect single.

Groovy Tony (feat. Jadakiss)/Eddie Kane

Groovy Tony my favorite record and beat. Adding Kiss was a perfect match for this record it’s a warning to the people. Eddie Kane is a trippy song the hook is in the 5 heartbeats breath. Good two track combo.

Kno Ya Wrong (feat. Lance Skiiwalker)

I understand the concept of the song. But things don’t get interesting until it flips over to the 2nd part of the song. I think it’s the weakest song on here. But that’s not a bad thing.

Ride Out (feat. Vince Staples)

Both guys do solid on this song. Vince Staples been slept on for a minute. Just another West Coast ride around record.

Whateva You Want (feat. Candace Pillay)

West coast two step record hands down I love this shit right here. Explicit picnic music.

By Any Means (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

I heard this record in the Schoolboy Q short film I like the record it’s got that Schoolboy Q sound to it.

Dope Dealers (feat. E-40)

Always wanted to see what two West Coast niggas do to a Metro and Southside beat. E-40 continues his 30 years of relevance with solid verses and Schoolboy does ok.

John Muir

To be honest, I don’t know why I like this song. Maybe it’s the lyrics, maybe it’s the TDE sounding NY type beat. But it’s a top 5 favorite of mine nonetheless.

Big Body (feat. Tha Dogg Pound)

Cripping at its finest. Q, Daz and Kurupt bring a style that is insanely West Coast on here and Daz and Kurupt going back and forth is so good. I miss those days lol.

Neva Change (feat. SZA)

I love this record because I’m SZA bias. Anything she’s on she brings a spark to my brain. Her voice is perfect. Q’s verses are great. Arguably, the best verses on the album.

Str8 Ballin’

Nothing too amazing about this song. Just a basic ride around song.

Black Thoughts (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

Sounds like a typical TDE song. Nice jazzy beat with dark poetry. Self explanatory. Dope song.

Blank Face (feat. Anderson .Paak)

Anderson seems like the ultimate icing on the cake on these guest appearances. He basically makes the track his. However, Q brings it on this song to match Anderson consistency.

Overtime (feat. Miguel and Justine Skye)

Schoolboy Q explained that he was forced by Interscope to do this song. I’m glad they did this is one of my favorites. The equivalent to “Studio” on his previous album. This hella dope and Justine Skye kills this shit at the end.

Tookie Knows (feat. Traffic and TF)

Another song in the Schoolboy Q short film. This song is bananas and a dope way to close this shit out. That TDE bounce.

Overall I give it a slightly better rating than Oxymoron. This album is hard and one of the better albums this year. Got a nice balance of bangers, introspection, darkness, and lyrics.
