French Montana- MC4 B 86%

MC4CoverArt.jpg

Well unfortunately due to Target’s accidental stocking of Mac and Cheese 4 it leaked like a thirst trap icon on Instagram. Now due to sample clearances I got the leak for French’s album. I heard it and I’m speechless. Now 2013’s “Excuse My French” was mediocre. It was an awful album because French Montana’s name on the album but it was like a DJ Khaled album with him rapping bars. There were some cuts on there that were dope but as a project he had multiple throwaways and the skip button broke on it. However, this album is the complete opposite and French will NOT be outshined by guests ever again.

“Ready / Intro”

This shit lit bro. I like it. Definitely a come in the arena type record. It just makes you jump up and down. Don’t know what it’s about but I know this will get a lot of car play and pregame play.

“Play Yaself”

This is basically French’s swan song in a sense he brings up Max B’s situation (this happens a lot on this album) French is going back to the Cocaine City days. Um, is French spitting bars instead of doing dumbed down strip club songs on this album? I like this shit too.

No Shopping” (featuring Drake)

SIPPIN ON THE DRANK, SIPPING ON THE DRANK! That’s my shit doe! This shit a monster I’m surprised this isn’t any bigger. Drake drops a solid verse but mediocre diss to Joe Budden but it’s hilarious because it’s clearly a direct shot at Joey but at the same time nobody gives a fuck about what Joe Budden does or responds with even if it’s good. However this will be played at every party every concert in the world. This record is fire though.

“2 Times”

Probably the weakest song on here but I’ve heard worse than this but this an average song. Although I love the sample that’s the dopest part of this song. And definitely a strip club banger. I’ll probably give this the replay value I think no one else could do this track but French Montana. But as he said if the pussy good you got to hit it two times. LMAO!

“Everytime” (featuring Jeezy)

This shit is my favorite shit on here! This should get play in Detroit my nigga. This is a tough banger right here. This beat is phenomenal. This shit basic as fuck but I fucks with it. But man it’s that you know you the shit type record. And Young Jeezy with his consistent ass brought it on here. Same old coke raps if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. It’s produced by the nigga Rico Love team Earl and E the people behind “Ain’t Worried About Nothin'”

“Said N Done” (featuring ASAP Rocky)

NY is definitely in the building. This shit feels so NY to me. I fucks with this shit too. I like it. French and A$AP go back and forth on the same track. Sharing XXL Covers and now sharing a dope ass song. Sounds like a NY club song minus the boom bap with the “All The Way Up” tempo.

“I’m Heated”

French channels his inner RUN-DMC on this shit. As he flips the 80’s flow on an old school hodge podge of West Coast and East Coast sounds. It’s kind of comedic in a way. This ain’t a bad at all. Solid.

“Lockjaw” (featuring Kodak Black)

I don’t like Kodak Black at all. He one of them new school niggas that need the Maino slap for real. Like he did with Yung Berg and Trinidad James. I don’t even like this version of the song without Gucci Mane. I hope he puts the Gucci version on the album.  But the song isn’t a bad song you can tolerate it. French does fine. Kodak does pretty okay I guess if that’s what you call it. But fuck that nigga for real. LOL! This song is a banger though.

“Check Come”

This shit funny because I can relate to this kind of shit. This is about the guy trying to get out a situationship alive. And I believe that this isn’t meant to be a lyrical miracle. This is meant to be funny break up song. And extra petty sauce on top of it. I’m a petty nigga so I fucks with this heavy.

“Brick Road”

Harry Fraud does it again where French spitting solid on here. Not a bad song at all. Got the NY backdrop sound that French had before he got commercial that’s why I’m glad French put this shit on the album. The beat switch is perfect on this record.

“XPlicit” (featuring Miguel)

This is one of the doper songs on the album. Definitely belongs in a Power sex scene. It’s a freaky record. And it seems like that nigga Miguel is the go to artist for a rap sex song. Some niggas are dope at what they do. But hey take this shit to the bedroom lol.

“Figure It Out” (featuring Kanye West and Nas)

This record is fucking incredible. I love this shit man. It makes me think of old times: good and bad. Kanye and Nas compliment French well. And French keeps up with the vets. He wonders why his favorite people in the world didn’t get to live or accomplish their greatest feats. I really fuck with this shit heavy.

“Have Mercy” (featuring Beanie Sigel, Jadakiss and Styles P)

French a G for this shit real talk bring that hip hop French. French goes back to Cocaine City days on this shit. And of course you know Beans, Jada and SP the Ghost never slouch, never disappoint and never EVER DROP WACK BARS. So props to Montana on this shit.

“Chinx & Max / Paid For” (featuring Max B and Chinx)

This song is the truth man. French shouts out two fallen brothers in Max B locked up for 75 years for a robbery and Chinx who was murdered in May 2015. I think this is the perfect closer where it has both songs one featuring Max and the other featuring Max and Chinx. This is a proper send off. And the answer to those questioning French’s motives amongst his feelings about Chinx’s death and Max’s incarceration. Song 1 ends with French’s Mom praying for Max and French and for the future. Paid For is dope as well.

Overall, I am completely surprised French went back to spitting bars when he’s been doing basic shit the last four years. However, I think Puff got in his ear and was like do this shit for NY. Whoever arranged this album was a fucking genius. Bottom line. Excuse My French was an album that if you took French off and put a decent rapper on you got a classic. MC4 is proof that French can rap his ass off if he feels like it. And he felt like it this album. I’m not saying the nigga Nas. I’m saying his growth from Excuse My French to MC4 was a hell of a transition. Salute to French Montana.

No Panty- Westside Highway Story A- 90

cover

Well, I guess that Latin rap is back. I kinda missed that shit yo! Terror Squad was popping about 15 years back with Pun, Seis, Armageddon, Cuban Link, and Fat Joe. Also, radio host Angie Martinez popped off with a few hit records and dope albums. Those niggas was dope and as of today all the Latin community has is Joell Ortiz, Nitty Scott & Bodega Bamz. They combined to make “No Panty” me personally I wish they could have came up with a better name than that but fuck it new Ortiz and Nitty verses and Salaam Remi production. LMAO! Bodega Bamz is someone I’ve heard of, but never heard and he’s a dope compliment to the group. But enough of that introduction let’s get to it.

Hola [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

This shit is tough tone with the Hip Hop Sample. This one of my favorite samples the Run-DMC shit. Bodega hook is ridiculous. Latin version of Dey Know ha! LOL! All 3 rappers bring it no flaws all bars. Joell is always gonna bring it so no worries. Nitty is always been incredible. Bodega adds the swagger to the group. This song is hella NY.

Singin’ My Song [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

Another dope sample. Slick Rick “Mona Lisa”. Nitty, Joell and Bodega smashed this shit too. I’m still singing “Bodequa I know they singing my song” This got that old school late 80’s early 90’s hip hop feel to it make the hardest gangsta dance.

Spanish Fly [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

Well Salaam makes an easy Latin bounce where the 3 MC’s showcase their Latin lingo and expertise flow. Shit dope. I think this shit way too short doe.

Westside Highway Story [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

Another Latin bounce flow however Joell, Nitty and Bodega tells the story of a relationship situation they had with the opposite sex. Definitely West Side Story influenced. Bodega kinda messes this song up no offense. Joell and Nitty executed well and Bodega stumbles about his broad leaving him for Joell.

Iceys On Deck [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

This definitely could have been on the “Do The Right Thing” soundtrack. Sounds like that 100 degree day out in New York sweating and the Ice Man comes through shaving the ice for them little syrup flavored ice cups. The “No Panty” trio definitely got the Icey’s On Deck sounds like a good idea for a business.

Mother’s Mark [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

This song deep as fuck man. Each MC tells a story of their hardships with their mother’s and their current relationships with them. A story of forgiveness, love, and triumph. How their mother’s choices shaped each rapper to how they ended up becoming grown.

Built Like This [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

More NY sounding shit. I mean it’s cool each MC details their swagger and where they get their styles from. Not the best song on here by any means but it’s a better filler than most niggas albums these days.

Shots [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

Dope latin Sample by Salaam much respect. The hook by Nitty Scott is the highlight of this mixtape dog. She shouts out all the ball players in the form of shots to drink. This is a low key pregame/turn up type song. It’s a more hip hop laid back version hood version of Lil Jon- Shots minus the up-tempo and more of a laid back two step. Easily my favorite song on here.

Gato [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

Just straight rap and no hook just sounds like a BET Cypher type thing. Each MC doesn’t slack.

Levitate [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

No Nitty? Meh probably the weakest song on the tape but it’s a solid song nonetheless.

Rrraahh [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

BLLLLLLLAAT! Definitely some NY shit right here. Bodega, Nitty, and Joell spitting some heat on this shit dog. With nothing but a bongo and a bass line. This shit was done in a week fam.

The Afterparty (Live At Jimmy’s Pt. 2) [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

A lot of niggas don’t understand ESPECIALLY THESE LIL UZI VERT YACHTY dicksucking niggas not even the Get Rich 50 fans get the slept on significance of the original “Live At Jimmy’s”. Angie Martinez had a record on her first album called “Live At Jimmy’s” it’s a Latin hip hop classic: It had Big Pun, Domingo, Sunkiss and Cuban Link. It’s a dope ass song. And they added some flavor to this version. The Big Daddy Kane sample and the hook from the original. Each MC pays a pretty decent tribute to the original song that sounds like you snuck into the wrong party full or Latins and Ricans and you started turning up anyway like that scene in 3 Strikes and shit.

No Panty Anthem [Prod. By Salaam Remi]

The party continues with this salsa manifesto. Probably gonna be the only song on my IPod you can salsa to besides “Maria” and both the “Live At Jimmy’s”. Extra Latin sauce and each MC can rap to this kinda shit showing the versatility.

Overall, this could have been a bit better but I’m happy that I came across this shit or else I would have never found out about this shit. So salute to Joell, Nitty and Bodega for putting this shit out.

Rae Sremmurd- Sremmlife 2 C+ 78%

87052647

Welp, last year’s new group Mike Will Made-It’s version of Kriss Kross, Rae Sremmurd is back with a sequel to last year’s smash Sremmlife, Sremmlife 2. They are known for their turn up anthems and most of all the writer of Formation group member Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy. The Mississippi duo try to recreate the success of their debut album. Let’s see if they succeed.

“Start A Party”

The album starts off like this the first song on the IPod that you play at a turn up function. Has the frat party feel. Average start to the album not with a bang per se but not a bad song whatsoever.

“Real Chill” (featuring Kodak Black)

Meh. This track weak because Swae and Jimmy bomb on this song. This shit terrible when Kodak Black delivers the best verse on the song. The beat is great (of course it is Mike Will Made It), but that’s all this shit really got to offer.

“By Chance”

This was originally meant for Mike Will- Ransom 2 but this song a solid one. Not going on the Hall Of Fame or nothing like that. But at the same time it’s only a turn up anthem and nothing more with a comedic hook.

“Look Alive”

At first when I heard this shit. I hated this song. But then when I listened again I appreciated the song a whole lot better. It’s a positive turn up record. Feel your highest of the highs. I fuck with this record.

“Black Beatles” (featuring Gucci Mane)

Definitely a walk in the club introductory type record. I don’t hate the record. But again just a few references related to being a star and a solid Gucci verse with nothing much more. Solid song though.

“Shake It Fast” (featuring Juicy J)

This shit is fire! Flat the fuck out. Leave it to Juicy J to ignite some strip club flare. It reminds me of the old Cash Money man. Jimmy spits a dope ass verse on this bitch. Swae hits and misses and Juicy closes it out and it ends with a 3-6 Mafia sample. Definitely want to throw some money around low key I might go back to the strip club to hear this song one day hopefully in my future.

“Set The Roof” (featuring Lil Jon)

This track was disappointing but it isn’t trash by no means. Lil Jon could have came up with a better hook than that. Lil Jon legendary man. But Rae Sremmurd delivers over the DJ Mustard and Mike Will Made-It beat. The song’s verses pretty much carry this thing.

“Came A Long Way”

Meh. I understand the concept of the record from rags to riches story that all artists tell. But it’s an ok record. Nothing really great about it just a extra regular record.

“Now That I Know”

This song is dope as fuck as Swae Lee goes into full songwriter mode. The song is based on the current in style relationship about how you lost your main chick and gravitated to the side chick but still has the feelings for the main. It has a Drake vibe to it no doubt and definitely can be a bedroom smash.

“Take It Or Leave It”

Easily the best song on this album Swae and Jimmy brought it on here. It’s basically a reminder take me as I am or have nothing at all just a rap version of it. I like the beat and the message behind it.

“Do Yoga”

This song has a terrible ass hook that turned me off at first listen. “All my girls do yoga and get high at night”repeated. That hook hella trash. But the verses and the beat keep it from being atrocious and upgrades to mediocre.

“Over Here” (featuring Bobo Swae)

When I heard this shit I was like this is a hit record. Should be a bigger record if it’s not. This a party anthem easily. Get your shots and alcohol ready. Fire!

“Swang”

This song would go in Houston. A chopped and screwed version would definitely ice this record. I think the record cool. Not really much to explain.

“Just Like Us”

This joint is nice. Just a song about how the lifestyle of being a star is and even though girls front and want to hide the fact that they want to live the lifestyle of being in the spotlight. I fuck with it.

“Patti Cake”

Another terrible ass hook. Jesus Christ. Your hook is your thesis statement. It has to be endearing enough to bring the listener in however again in this situation a Slim Jimmy, “Project Pat impression” and Swae verse saves it from being a disaster.

“Pole Code”

This record shows that Rae Sremmurd loves and respects what strippers do no matter if they sucking the manager’s dick or working a side job. Long as you stripping you have their respect. But this song just average to me and a throwaway.

Overall, this record is too fucking up and down for me. It’s not a great project it’s got a couple dope ass songs. Sremmlife 1 was waaaaaaaay better. Unfortunately it’s gonna take years for this group to show growth. It’s turn up and never turn down for life with this group. Which isn’t always a great thing. But the project can be tolerable for a person who likes the current sound of music.

The Feel Good Soundtrack

Hello folks. I’m back with another one of those crack articles. When you see this title you will understand the definition.
