Because of the fact that I just brought it to your attention today. 2Pac Shakur was really an icon, a rebel, an activist, a legend and way before his time. The world wasn’t ready for 2Pac as he was murdered in 1996. Taken from us too soon however he left us with 7 albums to heal from the death but he is still relevant and still instilled his spirit into multiple artists to make his mark so let’s get on with it.

J. Cole- 4 Your Eyez Only A 95

4_your_eyes_only

Hello, everyone I had to do this review it would be anticipated. So is Cole World dropping 2 classics in a row with no features. Sure he is. Well Cole is a top 2 rapper out today. He improves with every project. He’s come a long way from outfarting niggas and leftover lasagna punchlines to arguably the best rap has to offer. I applaud his effort. However, this album shows that Cole is headed to be up there. I think he should have called this shit “Villematic” LMAO! But we’ll settle for 4 Your Eyez Only without further ado let’s kick this shit off.

“For Whom the Bell Tolls”

Well this is an epic beginning. Feels like the beginning of a stage play. Feel like I’m at fucking Vaudeville or some shit instead of Dreamville. I fuck with this shit. Reminiscent of “Keep The Family Close” the J. Cole version. Matches the intensity of the Forest Hills Dr. intro.

“Immortal”

Man, this record had me thinking of 2Pac. If he was alive he would have did this song. It just gives that sense of victory. That sense of feeling yourself. It just showcases Cole’s versatility as an MC and as a dope ass songwriter. Cardiak did this shit doe WOOOOOOOOW!

“Deja Vu”

LMAO! TILLER GOT HIS RECORD TOOK! Well not only did Cole snatch up the record he surpassed the performance of Bryson Tiller’s exchange. It could also be a club smash. His chants again are similar to Pac’s. He took a few pages out of “Rose From A Concrete” and turned it into a fucking banger. Good job. Also had the talents of Cole, Boi-1Da, Frank Dukes, Vinylz & Velous production wise to spice this shit up

“Ville Mentality”

This shit is deep as fuck man, makes you think. Something these ABC MMMMM MMMMM MMMMMM ass rappers can’t do. It’s just a record for the soul. Not a fan of the hook but the verses and the interludes mean so much.

“She’s Mine Pt. 1”

Cole put his lil Andre 3K twist on this hoe along with some spoken word and singing. Reminiscent of “To Pimp A Butterfly” this is really good man. Real Boy Meets Girl type shit on this record right here.

“Change”

This is my favorite song on the record and by far the best one on here. It’s hard to beat this one with a bat. Ill ass boom bap. Cole snapping like a Mustard jam on this one. (Cole said that line before) but anyway man this some more dope ass deep shit. The female crooner I presume it’s Ari Lennox did her thing as well on the background. The ending was chilling when he explains the death of his young friend.

“Neighbors”

This song is trill because it just reminds me of UGK. But shit if you put Schoolboy Q on the remix to this shit. This would go hard. But this is what the average nigga goes through everyday. Cole was going off in this shit as well.

“Foldin Clothes”

I guess you can say this is the first chink on the armor for Cole. But not a visible chink. This is not bad by no means and this is better than niggas best songs on albums. And I’m not gonna say he shouldn’t have put it on here. Because this shit was for the queens doing they thing. Independent, fine, thick and all that son. But the last verse was smooth. Just wish he had two verses to go with that third. Instead of crooning 4 bars and back to the nice hook he laid for it. Probably the weakest cut on here.

“She’s Mine Pt. 2”

This shit is beautiful dog. Bottom line. This is an ode to the birth of a child. This shit is definitely going to be probed at universities and studies and shit. This was a hell of a story to be told fa sho for the emotion that a man goes through when a child is conceived. Completely opposite of “Lost Ones”.

“4 Your Eyez Only”

Cole on that storytelling Nas shit. This song sounds like it should have been on Illmatic for real. He went in. He was explaining the mine of the average hood nigga with a couple dings on his record trying to raise the child he just had and the struggles of life and coping with possible death or living to see his child grow.

Overall, this album is like Cole’s peak as far as songwriting, singing, production, etc. I think this is art to be honest. I know a lot of people not going to get it. But I literally sat in the car blacked out and listened to this shit twice in a row to make sure I ain’t miss nothing later on down the line I could rate it higher. But I just think that this album is worth buying as my instincts told me and I did. This album won’t save hip hop, but the album will continue to pump the heartbeat of hip hop for a couple more years.
