Nitty Scott- Creature! A- 93

creature

Nitty Scott has been around the world literally. Born in Grand Rapids, MI. Raised in Orlando, FL and moved to Brooklyn, NY to pursue rap. Shit is crazy to have all that culture already. And being black and latina helps to make her flow unique and practically untouchable. In my opinion I feel talent wise she’s the best female MC in rap minus popularity, record sales, and accolades. However, she’s blessed us with multiple projects her EP “The Boombox Chronicles” which contained the single “Flower Child” with Kendrick Lamar which the video was in MTV’s rotation and her debut album in 2014 “The Art Of Chill” which displayed more of a hip hop and Jazzy tone with her rapid fire rhymes and gripping storytelling however with Creature she takes a way left turn to see where she fits in the current space of hip hop.

“Coquí Song”

One theme of previous Nitty Scott projects is she always had multiple spoken word interludes of gems and knowledge. She executes well.
“La Diaspora (feat. Zap Mama)”

This track is true to Latina roots. This is kind of hip hop esque I don’t know if I would have started the album that way but this track is tight. The hook is cool with the Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop sample. Nitty coasts through with sharp verses. This reminds me of an Island running around the jungle with kids type vibe and shit.

“Creature!”

This song is dope as fuck. I wish this would have been longer she would have bodied this. One verse is not enough for this shit. Feels more like an interlude to me. But this is still a good ass song.

“Pxssy Powah!”

This a club record right here. Girls gonna shake that ass to this shit at the right club. I like this shit. She showcases her flow on this one.

“Negrita”

I heard this song towards the end of 2015. I’m happy this song made it. This shit is really laid back then transitions into a more trap song. But she channels her inner Missy Elliott on this song. The 1st beat is kind of Timbaland-ish. Dope shit.

“PinkPalmTrees”

This a good ass interlude just laid back like you chilling on the beach getting a tan vacation type shit. She ends this with an interlude of spoken word that pulls you into the next track.

“For Sarah Baartman”

Nitty did her research in order to provide the message for this record. bart

This is basically Nitty saying that she feels like she’s on display because she’s is unique. And understands the history of African-Americans. These lyrics will be on display at art exhibits surely.

“Write!”

This shit is deep. One of the best songs on this album. Just puts you in a mood to where you can think and see the lyrics and the imagery on this one. The hook dictates the tone of the record. It seems like she’s writing a letter to herself: past, present or future.

“In The Water”

This is my favorite record on this album. I don’t know who did this hook but she bodied it. Nitty kills these verses about maintaining her integrity with her music. She is defiant and not willing to sacrifice her style to be popular. Every bar of the hook and verses means some shit on here. You’ll get to know her well on this song. “Tell the whole world, I’m different.” “I’m on my own wave, I don’t fit in.”

“Don’t Shoot! (Feat. Raina Rich)”

This another song that can be used during these days and times with police brutality at a high a fucking joke as a president and a system that makes you want to piss and vomit. But Nitzia got them bars for that shit too. Politicking.

“Kaleidoscopes!”

This track is dope as fuck. The hook is addictive and should be a single. This another club banger something to turn up to. It’s got all that shit people talk about on here. Just turning up and having a good time. Drugs, sex, and alcohol.

“Indígena”

This interlude is quite spiritual and it has some type of Buddhist or Hindu chant. Which is sampled in the closer.

“Mango Nectar”

The interlude is sampled and Nitty comes on this bitch snapping and the kick and the snap and trap snares come through with the bass. This is kind of a victory lap. Quite the odd closer but I’m with it. Both her verses are dope on here too.

Overall, this project is her best work to date. Cause we get a full-length album after 3 years she teased this album a year and a half ago. Now we finally get the album. Nitty has branched out with rap group “No Panty” with Joell Ortiz and Bodega Bams which could have delayed the project. But this shows all of what she has to offer which is messages, spoken word, versatility, beats, bars, and shock value.

Meek Mill- Wins & Losses- B 85%

WinsAndLosses.jpg

Well guess who’s back with another review? Yeah we are here to talk about a man who has overcome lots of obstacles and adversity to drop album number 4: “Wins & Losses”. He celebrates his wins with his triumphs and attributes the losses of his homies: Lil Snupe and Dex Osama. However Meek has had losses out the ass: Nicki Minaj, to Drake and The Game in battle. That has not stopped Meek from putting together what could finally be his best work so let’s get into it.

“Wins & Losses (Intro)”

Usually Meek’s track 1’s are vicious: “Dreams And Nightmares”, “Lord Knows”, and “On The Regular” but this one was good but not on the level of the 3 tracks I named it was decent though. Not something I would use for an intro to be honest. It’s just an ok song.

“Heavy Heart”

This is a solid song. I would have put this towards the end of the album or, “the end” of the album. Just Meek giving game and seeing the impact of the current situations that young people live through.

“Fuck That Check Up” (featuring Lil Uzi Vert)

Meh, not feeling this shit at all. This beat mean though. But no it isn’t because of Uzi that this the weakest song on here. It’s just this track is about nothing. I’ve heard better “stunting on these niggas and bitches” type songs. Meek using that same old flow from 2013 and shit. Uzi does okay on this thing. The flow is ok. But this song weak to be honest.

“Whatever You Need” (featuring Chris Brown and Ty Dolla Sign)

This is actually a good remake of Tony! Toni! Tone! “Whatever You Want”. Meek does well and Chris and Ty murder this shit. Good trip to the bedroom type record. Lil two step to it.

“1942 Flows”

Meek gets introspective and talks some real shit on this record. I understand that his message is sort of like mine when I say we are all still slaves we just have better access to land and other valuable items. That Nicki line was brutal was vicious.

“Issues”

This is a vintage Meek Mill record. Just flashy, disrespectful and honest. Reminds me of “Check” from “Dreams Worth More Than Money”.

“We Ball” (featuring Young Thug)

I guess Thugger and Meek talk about why they ball. Young Thug’s verse is pretty decent but that nigga voice annoying as shit. Sound like Lil Wayne dying on the side of the road. This song was a lot better than I thought it would be.

“These Scars” (featuring Future and Guordan Banks)

This is one of the better songs on the album. Guordan Banks from what I heard his voice dominates these tracks. As shown on Meek’s previous album and 50 Cent’s “Winner Circle”. Banks vocals are dope. Future and Meek both bring dope verses to make this song overall one to check out. “No more rollies, we buying property”. Seems like Drake motivated that line.

“Connect the Dots” (featuring Yo Gotti and Rick Ross)

This sounds like a Jahlil type beat. This 2011 Meek for sure. But Meek up to his usually screaming over a trap beat flow. Gotti kilt this shit. “Ya’ll looked up to Jordan, we looked up to Meech”.  Ross did okay on here not really nothing to brag about. Just a trap star anthem.

“Fall Thru”

This nigga sound like Young Thug with better vocals on this song. LMAO! But this one of them girly songs where Meek serenades his sweetheart. Reminds me of that Future Hendrix sound. I like the song.

“Never Lose” (featuring Lihtz Kamraz)

Lihtz Kamraz at the beginning channels his inner Mark Morrison. This beat is nuts. Solid song nothing to sweat or be like oh my god it’s the greatest in the world. But Meek is going ham on this shit. Meek explains he can’t lose if he didn’t die for real. Although he had a year last year that was forgettable his album DC4 was overshadowed by the lyrical thrashing of Drake and The Game last year. But Meek avenges that by saying what don’t kill me makes me stronger.

“Glow Up”

This my favorite track on here. C-Note on the beat. Meek in rare club form. This should be a single and a hit record it’s hype as hell.

“Young Black America” (featuring The-Dream)

No Meek didn’t use the Jay beat. I can see this on DC5. But not on an album. This song is really good. But I’m sorry after jumping Safaree bro you can’t make a song called “Young Black America” you get a minor deduction but other than that Meek’s lyrics are solid on here.

“Open” (featuring Verse Simmonds)

I love this song although Verse Simmonds wipes Meek off this song. This is a good straight to the telly special right here. This song is dope as fuck.

“Ball Player” (featuring Quavo)

Quavo on every nigga album this year. And Meek’s is no different. This beat is fucking bananas. One of the best beats of 2017. This hype as hell just like everything these 2 do together. This that in the club dancing, jumping with the squad song.

“Made It from Nothing” (featuring Teyana Taylor and Rick Ross)

This song is incredible. Although Ross’s verse is average at best. Meek does well and Teyana’s vocals are expert level on this bitch. She murdered this shit. Gave a nigga chills, B on everything. I will be having this in my rotation. This another rags to riches story and I like it.

“Price”

Great closer Meek good choice. Just another introspective song about the price of fame, the price of life and the price of choices. Nice song.

I like the fact that Meek is talking about more subject matter like he did on his Dreamchasers mixtapes. DC4 was more street than anything. Wins and Losses plays out like a movie. Full of ups and downs he put forth his best work when most thought that he would perish and decline. He widened the subject matter and capitalized when people weren’t looking hopefully it’s a sign for things to come on his future projects.
